The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season presents a large cast of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator stated earlier this year. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people make a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on October 29.
