The English and Welsh Placed Together for RWC 2027 in Australia

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The group draw was conducted by rugby legends such as former All Black Dan Carter.

The English side together with Wales have been drawn in an identical pool for the 2027 RWC, promising a highly-anticipated pool stage encounter in the tournament Down Under. Completing the group in Group F by Tonga and the Zimbabwean Sables.

This draw mirrors their infamous clash in the pool stages of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at Twickenham contributed to the hosts' surprise early exit.

Other Notable Pool Draws

Ireland and the Scots have likewise been drawn in a pool once again, just as the situation from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, they secured a 36-14 victory, with their opponents unable to progress to the knockout stages.

Uruguay and Os Lobos, who each made a strong impression as surprise packages in the last World Cup, complete that same group.

Notably, the winners of these two groups are kept apart from defending champions and world number one the Springboks before the final, presuming the Springboks top their own group.

Tournament Ramifications

If the pools play out according to the current global standings, further leading contenders like New Zealand and Les Bleus would remain separated from both England and Ireland all the way to the championship decider.

In that scenario, Argentina would be the other top-ranked nation on the same half of the elimination bracket as England and Ireland.

Hosts Face Major Opener

Tournament hosts the Wallabies have been drawn together with their trans-Tasman rivals and three-time winners the All Blacks in Group A.

Australia will kick off the tournament in the city of Perth on 1 October 2027 in a marquee match designed to jump-start the event.

Elsewhere, holders the Springboks have been paired with Italy, Georgia and the Oaks. The French team are grouped with the Brave Blossoms, future hosts the USA and Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will take on Fiji, Spain and the Canadian team as the World Cup grows to twenty-four nations from the 20 who took part in 2023.

This edition will introduce a last-16 round for the first time in Rugby World Cup existence.

While the victor of Pool F may avoid some of the game's biggest beasts early on, they will meet the runner-up from Pool B – most likely Italy – in the last 16.

A total of four of the other six pool winners will play a team that finished third from the initial group phase.
